Antique and incredibly rare Indian cuff made by the Saura tribe in Odisha (eastern Indian state)
The cuff is made from melted down metals, has a hollow inside and despite looking heavy, it is actually very lightweight which makes it very easy to wear. Perfect for belly dancers! It has a hinged opening and is shut with a wooden pin.
The shape is believed to replicate Vishnus weapon; the Sudarshana Chakra. The Sudarshana Chakra is a spinning, disk-like weapon, literally meaning "vision of which is auspicious," having 108 serrated edges.
The cuff also doubled up as a weapon of self-defense for the woman wearing it as the saw blade edges are quite sharp.
Inner circumference: 16.5cm
This cuff is so stunning and incredibly hard to find nowadays. I have been very lucky to be able to get my hands on some and was desperate to share them with the world. This cuff has signs of its age (rust and discoloration)
Perfect accent for a tribal belly dance costume, or as a signature statement piece. A perfect chance to buy a bit of India's rare jewellery history.
Free postage anywhere to the UK and free incense with every order.
