Antique vintage and incredibly rare Indian cuff pair made by the Saura tribe in Odisha (eastern Indian state)
The cuffs are made from melted down metals, have a hollow inside and despite looking heavy, they are actually very lightweight which makes them very easy to wear. Perfect for belly dancers! It has a hinged opening and is shut with wooden pins.
The shape is believed to replicate Vishnus weapon; the Sudarshana Chakra. The Sudarshana Chakra is a spinning, disk-like weapon, literally meaning "vision of which is auspicious," having 108 serrated edges.
The cuffs also doubled up as a weapon of self-defense for the woman wearing it as the saw blade edges are quite sharp.
