Rare XL vintage purple Silk coat/chapan from Afghanistan, featuring floral printed cotton lining and gold embroidery We acquired this from a private collector. The coat also features slight slits on either side.
‘Chapan’ coats such as this were traditionally worn by Turkoman and Afghan tribal communities ceremoniously. The delicate embroidery featured on the coat is indicative of the wearer’s social standing and is believed by some to protect the wearer from harm. The coat dates from the 1960s.
